Trails Project- Saturday June 3, 2017, National Trails Day
An Idaho Trails Association & BCHI Project
BLM - Purjue Canyon Trail Head - Little Jack Creek Wilderness, Owyhee's
MAP  Directions  85 Miles from Boise Airport.  BLM Project Handout

ITA will do staging/parking area trail sign installation on Mud Flat Road and install a horse/hiker gate in fence.  Another group would hike and keep working on trail which is now about a 3 mile hike in each way.  A couple people could improve gap fences so they are easier to open and shut so cattle don't hike our trail.

BCHI Plan: will be exploring and marking trails with signs and  rock cairns for some trails on the north rim of the canyon. Phil, Rob & Chick started this exploration the last week in April.  {David Draheim BLM}  Good idea.  I agree and bounced it off Tanya (manager) as some form of assurance and x-country loop opportunities will need to be included when the rec site is built if horse opportunities are going to be decent.  I like the rock cairn idea as cattle are hard on signs but need to make sure we can tell new cairns from historic and cultural cairns (the issue for manager to think about) (view pictures of area)

Horses trailers may have to park at Poison Creek 1.5 miles from trail head and meetup.  There is also a small area about 100 yards west of the Poison Creek toilet on the south side of the road that 3 or 4 trailers could back into.  As it is, a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive, I recommend that members drive over Friday night and camp at either location.  Horse water is available and trees for highlines or space for portable corrals. The chapter will be providing certified weed free hay. Saturday & Sunday breakfast, and Saturday dinner will be potluck, please provide your own lunch.

This is the future location of a horse friendly camping trail head with perment highlines and a toilet.   Wear good walking shoes and plan on exploring the area of the future camping trail head.
